The Carlsen-Caruana game from the 2020 Chessable Masters Final (Round 1.13, June 25) was a draw. The Chessable Masters Final was a two-player match between Carlsen and Caruana, contested over multiple day-matches as part of the Magnus Carlsen Tour 2020 — the main online elite chess series of the pandemic period.

The game was a Closed Spanish (Ruy Lopez), Carlsen as White choosing a slow positional structure. Caruana’s Black setup was solid, his Petrov- style approach producing exchanges that simplified into a balanced endgame. The draw was accepted in 40 moves with material balance and no clear winning chances.

The Chessable Masters Final ended in Carlsen’s overall victory in the match, winning the title and the substantial prize fund (over $40,000 to the winner).
